The Pierneef Market
In a recent article in Frieze magazine entitled 'Strange Weather' South African writer and journalist Sean O'Toole asks the question': 'Will Pierneef's art endure the great wave of negative opinion that threatens to annihilate his legacy?'
In light of this it will be interesting to see how strong the Pierneef market infact is when on 23 March 2011 Bonhams London will auction off 7 works by this artist in their South African sale; especially since 4 of the 6 works recently put up for auction by Stephan Welz & Co in Cape Town failed to find buyers.
